Day of Service!

We had a wonderfully successful Day of Service thanks to all you wonderful parents.

Krista organized a project for Portland Rescue Mission. Students put together care bags with essentials: socks, toothbrushes, floss, etc.

Chris, and Tracy organized "Busy Bags" for sick children at Doernbecher's Children's Hospital.

Katherine led a dog biscuit making party for homeless dogs.

Rebecca organized a donation center for a women's shelter.

Olga and Mark organized a pop up card project. Students made very sweet Get Well cards to children with cancer.

Dana led the whole class through a letter writing project in which students wrote letters to service men and women.

Wow! That is quite a days work! The kids felt great and had a lot of fun.

Again thank you all for your help and support. Here are some photos from the activities.

ART AUCTION

Thanks to the parents and students of Room 23, we have completed our Art Auction project! It looks even better in person. It is especially sweet to see the kids gathered around hunting for their individual contributions.
If you are not familiar with the project, it is compiled of thousands of photos that our class took while in forest park. Each student's name is also featured a number of times throughout the composition. To put finishing touches on the project students took turns sewing through the picture to highlight the forms. You can come see it up close and personal tomorrow or wait until you see it at the Chapman Prom.

November Update

Our art project is coming to a close. Students have created beautiful paintings inspired by their photographs.

We will be using every image from our class project to create a photo mosaic of Multnomah Falls for our class Auction project. We have a need for volunteers to assist with the project with both time and or funds if possible. Debra will be coordinating these efforts.

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up soon so please be sure to sign up if you have not already.

This week students reviewed their files of photographs and chose an image to work with next week. They will be creating a water color painting of the print they selected. We had SO MUCH fun preparing for these photos at Forest Park!

Busy Busy Week

It was great seeing you all at Back to School Night. If you were unable to come and sign up for a conference, you can find the schedule outside of my classroom. This week we are going to be VERY busy. Today, students participated in a chemistry class presented by OMSI. For the next few weeks we will be working with our Artist in Residence, Nancy Klos. She will be guiding students through realistic nature sketches which will lead into our work with Anne Ploger, a local photographer. She will be helping students capture art in nature through photography. Last week two docents from the Portland Art Museum visited our class in order to prepare students for our field trip to the museum next Wednesday. Speaking of the field trip, Wednesday is late opening, and we will need to leave immediately after the bell rings at 10:00 am. Please make sure your student is here on time. Thanks so much!
